In celebration of Richard Avedon’s 100th birthday, here is the image I chose for the #avedon100 and what I wrote to accompany it. Florynce Kennedy, Civil Rights Lawyer. 1969. “I had seen this photo before but wasn’t familiar with Florynce Kennedy’s activism. In this moment, with the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade and a constant threat of reproductive rights and justice on this country, this portrait and the energy of the subject feel as relevant today as ever. I was also born the year this photograph was taken. It’s hard to fathom that the fight for equity for all has not yet been won.”
