The festival goes back 2,000 years to China’s Warring States era and is widely associated with the story of Chinese patriot and poet Qu Yuan. In Singapore, we carry on the tradition of racing dragon boats and eating glutinous rice dumplings. Different dialect groups wrap their dumplings differently, but these delectable treats often contain more fat, sodium and sugar than the doctor recommends.
