Among American travelers, Europe is the most popular destination this year, according to a Hopper report. Demand has already outpaced 2019 levels, the report says, even as hotel prices surge and airfares are the highest in five years. The Sicilian city of Palermo, which is also featured in “The White Lotus,” is among the top trending destinations on the Hopper travel app. Because of a lack of availability, many travel advisers have had to turn away clients who were looking to book vacations in popular European locations in July and August. Venice, which attracts large numbers of visitors year-round, has been more crowded than usual in the weeks leading up to peak summer season. And attractions such as the Louvre in Paris and the Vatican in Rome are already teeming with tourists who have to wait an hour or more in line to get inside.
