Meet Snorky, a Short-beaked echidna that was rescued and admitted to Taronga Wildlife Hospital in Sydney after having been hit by a car.

Usually most echidna beak fractures can heal quite well with time and they can be rehabilitated and released back to the wild. However, in Snorky’s case there was a lot of deviation to the beak as can be seen in the X-rays (➡️ to see), which would have impeded on her ability to forage for food in the wild, so Snorky now lives at Taronga Zoo, helping raise awareness and educate guests about her unique species.

Please always remember to take special care when driving on roads where there may be wildlife nearby.

If you encounter injured or orphaned animals, if you can, please take them to wildlife hospital, such as the Taronga Wildlife Hospitals in Sydney or Dubbo, or contact a local wildlife rescue group or a local vet.
