What to Know About the Actors’ Strike

The union representing more than 150,000 television and movie actors is on strike, joining screenwriters who walked out in May. It is Hollywood’s first industrywide shutdown in 63 years.

It will take a while for filmgoers to notice a change, since most of the movies scheduled for release this year have already been shot. But TV viewers are already seeing the strike’s effects, and if it drags on, the next seasons of popular shows could be delayed.

The last time the writers and actors went on strike at the same time was in 1960, when Ronald Reagan was president of the Screen Actors Guild.
