The resulting scheme—Grattan’s first residential commission outside his own Mexico City home, which appeared on our April 2021 cover— is the perfect blend of cool and livable. Here in the living room for example, Grattan successfully fabricated and installed a freestanding bent mirror behind the custom sectional sofa, a feat he’d been attempting for years. “Athletes and artists aren’t that different,” Bird says. “There is a process.
