Rescuers in Morocco are racing to reach remote mountain villages hit hardest by the strongest earthquake recorded in the country in over a century.⁠

The 6.8-magnitude quake struck late Friday, killing nearly 2,500 people and leaving thousands homeless. Many residents in remote villages said they were digging through destroyed houses with their bare hands to find survivors as time runs out to rescue them alive.⁠
