Forget Switzerland—this Park City, Utah, getaway transports you straight to Japan. “It was important for it to feel like a real getaway,” says Stephanie Luk (@stephanieluk), director of interiors for Electric Bowery (@electricbowery), the Venice, California-based design and architecture studio. Consistent with the firm’s layered approach, the designers retained the chalet’s existing alpine appeal while simultaneously fine-tuning a fresh palette of surprising elements. The ryokan, or traditional Japanese inn, was a major point of departure for the interiors; each hospitality ritual adds an experiential layer to the design. In the great room, the fireplace and wraparound bench are clad in Japanese umi tiles.
