Reports on the number of deaths vary, but humanitarian officials estimate the death toll to be more than 6,000. The United Nations estimates the storm has displaced more than 43,000 people from their homes. ⁠ ⁠ “Ramadan Ali’s body is covered in bruises and scratches from when the flood in Derna swept him away. Ali only survived because he managed to catch part of a tree that was still rooted.
