@yaelmtzv is shortlisted for @prix_pictet 2023, a global award aiming to highlight sustainability and environmental issues through photography.⁠

The theme of this year’s Prix Pictet is Human. Martínez began his nominated series, Luciérnaga (Firefly), as “an essay on resilience a portrayal of those who have been through trauma and are still fighting violence in their communities, and of others who risked their lives emigrating to escape that violence and support the families they left behind, becoming their economic pillars.” The images feature bright dots of light, created by shining light through prints with pinpricks and photographing the result. ⁠

Prix Pictet will announce the winner on September 28, and the works of the twelve shortlisted photographers will be exhibited in the Porter Gallery of the @vamuseum starting September 29.⁠

In light of his nomination, Martínez will be hosting a talk and book signing at the Magnum Gallery in London on September 29.⁠
