Video by @macstonephoto | As photographers, we chase light and charge headlong into wilderness areas with the hope that nature will bestow a bit of its unpredictable magic—and that we’ll be there to capture it. For me, there is no better purveyor of wonder and enchantment than swamps and wetlands. Of all the incredible things I’ve seen while slogging through these ecosystems, I was never left as speechless or bewildered as when a SpaceX rocket—not once but twice—made its way into my frame in the middle of the night. For a moment, my assistant John Cline and I believed our lives were ending, a fiery meteoroid hurtling right toward us. Instead, it was a sign we’ve entered a new era, where routine rocket launches occur in the middle of the night, without fanfare or applause.
