Her early experience with family photographs inspired her to take up photography and she began to use her father's box camera to take her own pictures. 📸 As a teenager in the late 1960s, Pollard developed an interest in landscape photography, which was sparked by a Geography project at school that saw her take pictures of woods and sewage works in East London. This was only the beginning for Pollard, as she went on to become passionate about liberation movements concerning race, gender and sexuality. In the 1980s, she worked at the Lenthall Road Workshop, a feminist photography and screen-printing collective in East London, and by 1988 she was one of the founding members of Autograph ABP (the Association of Black Photographers).
