Laoualy, 2, was so ill, he couldn’t stand up.

His grandmother, Sahoura, was worried he wouldn’t pull through, rushing him to a UNICEF-supported hospital in Niger where he was diagnosed with severe malnutrition.

Dedicated healthcare, therapeutic milk, medicine and ready-to-use therapeutic food not only helped get Laoualy back on his feet, but smiling, eating and playing again.

To stop the same thing from happening to other children, UNICEF calls for urgent investment to treat, detect, and prevent severe malnutrition.

This includes support for breastfeeding, micronutrient supplements, therapeutic milk and food, and access to quality nutrition services.
