Have you ever seen the southern tamandua (Tamandua tetradactyla)? It’s a species of anteater from the forests of South America. It munches on ants and termites, using its 15.7-in (40-cm)- long tongue to scoop up prey into its toothless mouth. It digests meals with the help of a strong gizzard. When it feels threatened, this critter may emit a stinky secretion—said to be more potent than a skunk’s—from its anal glands.
