I had the privilege of shooting the Titian R. Peale Butterfly & Moth Collection, housed at The Academy of Natural Sciences, which is one of the oldest & most quique entomological collections in the Americas. If you are interested in a print or two of these beautiful boxes DM me, I just made two five foot tall prints of the first two pictures in the carousel and I could not be more pleased with the out come. Peale was an early American naturalist, and a member of a large family of artists & naturalists in Philadelphia. He had an interesting life of examining the natural world, as an early explorer, artist, illustrator, taxidermist & photographic inventor. His collection #Lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) remained strong & this insect collection remains as a beautiful accomplishments.When he first developed the 'Peale Box' which allowed one to view the specimens from above and below they became the most beautiful to examine the specimens. The last specimens date from 1885, his last year of life. The entire collection remains together in nearly 100 boxes, with additional specimens placed in the main collections of The Academy of Natural Sciences & The Carnegie Museum of Natural History. The collection was donated to The Academy of Natural Sciences @pennmuseum following Peale's death, and remained relatively unstudied for nearly a century.
