A female Rajah Brooke's birdwing butterfly. Alfred Rusel Wallace who described the species in 1855 named it for James Brooke an eccentric British Adventurer who was the Colonial head of State in Borneo. While waiting out a rainy season in #Sarawak that same year Wallace wrote the paper "On the Law that Regulated the Introduction of nNew Species," which laid out the beginnings of his theory of Evolution, a paper that he shared with Charles Darwin before the publication of what came to be know as his #EvolutionaryTheory. The announcement that Natural Selection was the vehicle that drove #Evolution was presented to the public in a paper by #CharlesDarwin and #AlfredRusselWallce.
