ALL HAIL THIS WOMAN, the only Asian face in all of #MiddleEarth. She is nameless and voiceless, but appears for a glorious 3 seconds at approximately 41:55 in #TheHobbit #BattleOfFiveArmies. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken, but I think she's the only one over the 4 films in this series. Seeing her made me realize that people of color are all but nonexistent, not only in the #Hobbit films, but also in the #LordOfTheRings trilogy. That's at least 18 hours of screen time. Now, before anyone accuses me of being a #hater, know that I am a huge #fan of these books and films. I've read and seen them all, most of them on opening weekend (something I rarely do!). I bring it up mainly to shine a light on the fact, that as an actor of color, specifically Asian, there are so many projects from people I admire (like Peter Jackson) that will never have a role for me, or anyone like me, simply because of my race. It's why I so appreciate shows like #H50 and films like #insurgent and #StarTrek. They are not worlds of #exclusion, but #inclusion.
