I'm presently sprawled on my bed in a state of Christmas bliss. Time is twisting and stretching like peppermint taffy. And so it begins.... "And so it begins?" you ask in disbelief, stripping the lights from the tree and cramming them into cardboard boxes to untangle next year. "Shake off that glow, Robin! On to new things! On to fresh starts! On to guilt and repentance and beach bodies and credit card bills! On to what's next and what's next and what's next and what's next!" I'm already getting Spring 2020 ads on Instagram, shaking my head as I scroll through each call for discontent hidden behind pretty little pictures. "Don't bask in gratitude for even one day!" these ads say. "Don't feel that joy. There's shopping to do!" Whether you celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus or not, there is nothing good or healthy about these retail-driven rhythms. They're like exhale after exhale after exhale, without ever a moment to take a breath. To reflect. To feel grateful or glad or complete. It's cultural hyperventilating, and I choose not to participate. Not this year. This year I choose quiet, whole-hearted celebration. Happy first day of Christmas. ❤️」12月26日 19時12分
