I was working late when I heard a helicopter flying around overhead. It's not an unusual sound in London, but the helicopter was circling particularly low. Out of curiosity I went to get a better look from my bedroom window and could hardly process what I saw. Grenfell tower was a blazing inferno. In complete shock, I got dressed, and ran out into the street. The tower had already been burning a little while and a small crowd had gathered round. I will never forget the look of grief on their faces. It was only then that I began to process that people were trapped inside. We stood in shock and watched helplessly as fire engulfed the building. 72 people died that night. Victims of a terrible case of neglect. An inquiry later discovered that the cladding recently placed on the building to make it look ‘more appealing’ didn’t conform with building regulations, and was central to the spread of the fire. To this day no one has been charged with a crime and no justice has been served. The people of Grenfell were, and continue to be let down by a system that values some lives less than others. Every month on the 14th, a silent vigil takes place in our neighbourhood. It is a powerful reminder of the grief and devastation that ripped through the community. The skeleton of Grenfell still stands, covered in a banner that reads ‘in our hearts’. Today I’m thinking of all the bereaved and the survivors. We will never forget. #JusticeforGrenfell」6月15日 0時27分
