Karamustafa was imprisoned in Turkey for aiding and assisting political activists after the military coup of 1971. Her Prison Paintings are a series of fifteen works showing intimate and private moments in the lives of the prisoners and reflect Karamustafa’s personal observations of daily life in prison.
