There are lions behind and in front of me. In fact in these pictures, more behind than in front. One question I get asked a lot, is if I need to always have the lions walking in front of me, so that I can keep a watchful eye, just in case one is biding their time, waiting to take an opportunity to get me. Well lions don’t work that way. You’re either part of their group or not. They don’t plot or connive waiting for the ‘right time’. This a human trait, an ugly human trait, but at the same time I always emphasise that my relationships with these particular lions is giving them a better life in captivity, one they’d never be able to have if the friendship wasn’t there. Well of course yes, in an ideal world that doesn’t exist and never will as long as humans are around. In my humble opinion lions in captivity need so much more than food and water and every now and again an enrichment toy thrown over the fence for good measure.」8月18日 0時01分
