I often get asked what the best age is to start skating, or - more pointedly - “Am I too old to start?” To that, I say it all depends on how far you want to take it. You can learn to stand on a board and move slowly at almost any age with the right guidance, but learning tricks or riding ramps can be lifetime pursuit. The feeling of freedom and control you get simply riding from point A to point B is the core enjoyment we glean from skating. But some of us prefer to take it further, regardless of age, traditions or stereotypes. Like Mr Kinoshita, who recently learned to drop in at age 81 (with the help of some cables?!). Keep challenging yourself because you won’t believe how far you can go.
