At this point my friend Joe (@mrjoezee ) and I had taken over the FIT newspaper and dropped all the boring school news and budget reports. We started covering student fashion trends and the industry we were literally at the center of there on 7th Avenue. . But most importantly (for me) we started shooting fashion editorials for the paper. . Yes - it was printed in black and white on crappy newsprint but when you slipped it into the glossy pages of your portfolio none of that mattered. . Because it was a tear sheet. . Joe convinced designers to lend us clothes for our shoots. We pitched ourselves to obscure Canadian magazines who had no idea we were just ambitious kids with a passion for fashion. (Yeah - I just said passion for fashion) . We talked model agents into letting us shoot some of their rising stars like Michelle Hicks and Trish Goff. . We made color copies of the images with faux headlines and slipped them into our books - passing them off as editorials. . It was a whirlwind of creativity and collaboration that laid the groundwork for everything that came after. . More tomorrow... .
