Duncan Grant's 'Bathing' 1911 🏊🏼‍♂️

Duncan Grant's 'Bathing' was inspired by Grant's summers spent at the Serpentine lido in Hyde Park, a swimming spot associated with London's gay culture. The mural was one of six created in 1911 by students to decorate a University's dining hall in London, responding to the theme ‘London on holiday’. Grant's athletic, muscular nude male bodies sat beside the other students' murals, which mainly featured family-centred activities. This raised eyebrows, with some critics condemning the corrupting influence Grant's mural may have on impressionable young students.
