I love studying classical African art forms and reinterpreting them in a contemporary fashion. Much of my company’s design is centered around and inspired by African Masks. I have created a line of posters, pins, totes, coasters, brooches, and soon gift paper, wallpaper and creative paper that is inspired by 6 classical African masks. As many people of African descendant, I have struggled in finding and seeing reflected in the society products with African designs with African vision. The worst being when visiting African museums or regular museums with an African department and find at the shop, 10 objects not representative of African craftsmanship. I always asked myself « do I really want people to go back to their home with this and say it’s from #Africa?). Our products are not just inspired by, they carry African values and cultures: Generosity, knowledge, Share. And because they represent African masks figures, we love seeing them as protectors guards.
