Now, the numbers on rehoming them have been totted up, and moving the hippos to new homes is going to cost Colombia $3.5 million. ⁠ ⁠ There are currently more than 150 hippos roaming the areas near Pablo Escobar’s Colombian estate, all of whom can be traced back to the three females and one male Escobar transported to the country back in the 80s. Those four hippos created more hippos, and experts warn that if expansion continues at the current rate, the area will end up with over 1,500 hippos in the next two decades.⁠ ⁠ Colombia wants to move 70 of these hippos to new locations – 10 to Mexico and 60 to India. ⁠ ⁠ “The whole operation should cost around $3.5m,” Ernesto Zazueta, the owner of the Mexican sanctuary, has said.」4月1日 0時45分
