Ukiyo-e is a painting for the masses that depicts the fun and fashion of the common people in the Edo period.
Katsushika Hokusai is a famous ukiyo-e artist. The other day, I went to the Sumida Hokusai Museum. Hokusai lived to be 90 years old.
The performance in which he paints the legs of a chicken in vermilion and shoots them out, telling the shogun that the footprints are the autumn leaves of the Tatsuta River, is also interesting.
The writer Kyokutei Bakin, who worked with Hokusai, is said to have kept as many as 100 birds. If he kept such a number, it would be expensive and he could not work, so he left only the canary on the side. I also have a canary.
The canary is said to have a beautiful voice,and sleeping figure is incredibly adorable.

“浮世“で、ポジティブな明るい世界に目を向けようよと。浮世絵は、江戸時代の楽しい庶民の様子や流行などを描いた大衆向けの絵画。
そんな浮世絵作者と言えば、誰もが一度は聞いたことのある葛飾北斎。この間、その彼の歴史を辿れるすみだ北斎美術館へ行きました。北斎は90歳まで生きたほどの長寿。晩年は、半分こたつに入りながら絵を描いていたとか。
鶏の足に朱色を塗って放ち、その足跡を「竜田川の紅葉でございます」と将軍に言った有名なパフォーマンスも面白い。
私が行った時、ちょうど「北斎バードパーク展」が開催されていた。
北斎と共に仕事をしていた著作家の曲亭馬琴(きょくていばきん)は、百羽もの鳥を飼っていたらしい。流石にそんな数を飼っていたら、費用も掛かるし仕事に手が付かず、カナリアだけ側に残したそう。
声が綺麗と言われてるカナリア。確かに歌声を披露してくれて癒されるが、心を許してくれるにはとても時間が掛かる。でも、寝ている姿はとてつもなく愛おしい。
私もカナリアを飼っているので実感します。
さて、馬琴はどうだったのだろうか。
