I read these words by @briannawiest just yesterday and oh how they landed with me. Particularly the “how you learned to dig joy out from beneath your cynicism” part. I’m someone who used being sarcastic / cynical / self-deprecating as a shield for so long. It’s still something I revert to (especially in response to an earnest compliment) but I’m slowly learning to undo it - to find joy and happiness and to not push it away as though it isn’t for me.

And let me say, in this moment here, oh what happiness I felt. To see Villefranche-Sur-Mer spread out beneath me, a beautiful picnic to share with Eric (thank you @elenasmoments for setting it up), and a quiet moment to take it all in. Our flight home was only 10 hours later the next morning, but it was the most joyous end to our trip.
