Riders pop up on one wheel, stand up on their bikes, brush their hands along the ground — all while zooming along at top speed. Completely exhilarating and potentially illegal, at least on public streets, this is “cabrage,” which translates roughly from the French to “a rodeo on wheels.” Rides like these are known in French as “barodes.” They are banned in Martinique; participating in one can be punishable by a year in prison and a 15,000 euro fine.
