Post-Pump, Pre-Cardio Honesty Shots Workout #2 (Honesty Time 👇)

This past year post-retirement has been a whirlwind. Chaotic is a gentle word for it. And while I’m grateful to God for the lessons along the way, my biggest shame and disappointment in myself is the loss of my health and fitness level and the stress and anxiety that came with it.
For pretty much the entirety of my career, I hated my body. I’ve never been thin or lean, and I was constantly told I needed to lose weight. Compared to all the other skaters. Through all of junior and 2 Olympic cycles, I struggled with self image and trying to fit in to everyone else’s idea of what a skater should look like (as if skaters aren’t athletes too? 🤔) I definitely allowed this to affect the way I ate. I avoided workouts trying to stay smaller. A judge or coach, even other competitors, would make a comment and I’d go home and try some extreme diet for 3 days before getting discouraged and bitter. I let other people determine my self esteem and self image. I could get into the nastiness of people opinions, but it’s not my main point and I recognize that while this is my personal struggle, other people have it way worse, especially women in sport.While I have dealt with other peoples voices in my head, my own still takes some battling. So I am using this platform to force some honesty and accountability from myself. I’m in China, literally training in the building @マディソン・ハベル and I won our Olympic medals in while I train some of Chinas best and upcoming. So for the next 5 weeks, this venue/space is my playground and I’m gonna kick my body into shape.
