I read the sentences aloud and find some irregular surfaces that trip my tongue. Yet my voice sings a singular rhythm despite the bumps. My eye is caught by a flash of light and I look to the bracelet on my wrist, a gift from an old friend. Today I am writing about fashion, history and affect. My bracelet made of rectangles, in the moment I am aware of it, becomes an evocative object. One that prompts me to question and daydream. It helps me to think. It reminds me of the words that at first seem randomly placed on the page but have a beautiful rhythm at the end. Now captivated, I discover in my research, the rectangles are a homage to history. Fashion houses that resist the passing of time and trends do so because they embrace the primacy of history and craft. This bracelet is no exception. The rectangles mimic the fabric swatches placed by Christian Dior on a large board in his atelier as he dreamed the unique beauty of haute couture. I thank my friends at Dior for inviting me, dressed in my new “outfit” as writer, to be part of this campaign. A day in the city, dressing in Dior, seeing old friends and meeting new ones like @_brettwarren_ the amazing photographer, fill me with feelings of joy and possibility that come from memories of my past life and times I wore clothing and carried bags from this house.
