So we decided to set off on a European road trip to mark the last couple of weeks of Tommy's paternity leave. We set off with a full car and without much of a plan and thought we'd see what happened with a rough plan to end up at my sister's in Holland. 🚗

We set off bright and early to get the tunnel over to France to begin our European road trip! There were some delays so we got to France later than expected! Alf was in good spirits though!

We had made a plan to stop at a beach town in France or Belgium en route but both kids were sleeping which is a rarity in the car, so we just drove straight to Bruges... 🙏

We arrived after quite a stressful last ten minutes where we didn't know if we were even allowed to drive down some of the streets (we were there's just not many cars and a lot of people) and thought how nice it would be to go for a drink in the sunny square... 🤪

But we have kids so we don't always do what we want! 🤣 And alf needed to blow off steam so we went for ice cream and then found a local playground!

We found our hotel very last minute and it was so perfect. Small, super friendly staff, and right in the centre. It also was near the playground (Koningin Astridpark). It was called the Pand. 🙏

Bruges is just beautiful 😍 we both said how much we'd love to go back on our own. It's so romantic. 🙏

We both said that we'd rather go places than not go with kids , but we've learnt some places are easier than others. City breaks I'd put on the slightly more stressful side because as much as you want to do everything you'd do otherwise - ultimately a happy toddler makes the world of difference to your day. 🤪🤣 but we found a good rythm and balance of doing the kid stuff and the sightseeing stuff.

We really enjoyed doing the boat trip and the horse ride. It allowed us to get our bearings and see as much as we could in a very toddler friendly way. 🙏❤️

Sadly the weather wasn't great but we researched the water park - Lago Bruges Olympia. And that was so fun! 💦

Obviously we left a little shaken up, with what happened on our last day but with an appreciation for our family and for life. And can't wait to go back for a romantic weekend ❤️🙏
