Titled 'uMoya: The Sacred Return of Lost Things', the 2023 exhibition addresses the history and temperament of Liverpool and can be found in historic buildings, unexpected spaces, and art galleries throughout the city. In the isiZulu language, uMoya means spirit, breath, air, climate and wind. Artists at @TateLiverpool explore the space between life and death and how to work through ancestral pain towards healing. 🧶 Highlights include: Isabel do Rosário’s largescale textile pieces, exhibited for the first time outside of Brazil, which are rooted in her African ancestry. As a child, she would weave with her grandmother, cutting cloth squares to be woven into a quilt or a rug. 🌊 Lubaina Himid's 'Between the Two my Heart is Balanced' is 'a musing on what would happen if Black women got together and started to try to destroy maps and charts – to undo what has been done’. 📖  Francis Offman's ‘Untitled’ proposes a meditation on on how to convey history’s violent narrative through an intimate reflection on the Rwandan genocide. The installation is centred around a Bible belonging to Offman’s mother which accompanied her as she fled the country following the onset of the Rwandan Civil War. 🖌️ Pamela Phatsimo Sunstrum creates imagined worlds that explore selfhood and transnational identity.
