On Friday, as New York Fashion Week began, the audience at the Helmut Lang show on the Lower East Side buzzed with anticipation. Would the rising star Peter Do be able to reinvent the brand that once defined haute cool?

For his first show as Helmut Lang’s designer, @doxpeter had clearly done his research, writes The New York Times’s chief fashion critic, @vvfriedman. The collection “was carefully crafted in Lang’s sartorial vocabulary: flat-front pants, Crombie coats and lacquered jeans,” she writes.
