And actually it's more common than you might think as 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience incontinence. That's why I am absolutely delighted to announce I'm an ambassador for TENA's new campaign. Together we are on a mission to End Bladder Shame. Because for something so common, it feels so taboo to discuss. So let's open the conversation and talk. ☕❤️ Probably like lots of you, I incorrectly assumed incontinence was just something you had to put up with after childbirth. So I did, and I felt hugely embarrassed. Like my body was broken. We all hear stories and jokes about not going on trampolines as a woman! Incontinence is obviously physical, but it also impacted me mentally and knocked my confidence. I'm fit and healthy and in the prime of my life, so I didn't really expect it to happen to me. It's hard to love a body when you feel like it's broken and could leave you in an embarrassed at any moment. I felt ashamed. But actually since opening up and seeking help, I learnt about our pelvic health muscles and exercises we can do to help! The more we open up the more we can reduce the shame so others can seek help! So to help end the shame around incontinence and bladder weakness I thought I'd share some TENA research that has helped empower me to feel less alone: ✨93% of Brits agreed that as a nation we get overly self-conscious when it comes to talking about medical issues. ✨Two-thirds (66%) of us Brits are too ashamed to tell their family and friends about their incontinence. ✨ 56% of us think childbirth is a common reason for incontinence! I hope by opening up this conversation it allows you to realise that not only are you not alone, but you can also seek professional help. Because as common as it is, it doesn't have to be something you just have to suffer with.
