I’ve been reading A Thousand Mornings by Mary Oliver. She asks me to consider the question what can I learn from the smallest of moments? My weekend was what one might call uneventful. Certainly compared to the life I led as Accidental Icon it may seem so. But I am no longer her. I am Lyn becoming. There are the usual rituals of shopping, working around the house and yard, stopping for a meal or a coffee. Talking with new friends and hoping to make connections with others. Exercise with a view of a lone red tree. Some reading, some writing, some Netflix. A beautiful garment comes to me in a box. Planning for a trip, and serendipity enters the scene. A literary festival pops up while exploring rail trails to ride our bikes on. A tiny map of Ireland on my shirt, part of my origin story. Each and every moment of this seemingly uneventful life lived more materially and off-line can become something more if I look at the world the way Mary Oliver does. So can we.
We are ordinary women living extraordinary lives. That is the Accidental Icon legacy, the power to constantly reimagine our everyday lives, ourselves.
