ナショナルジオグラフィックさんのインスタグラム写真 - (ナショナルジオグラフィックInstagram)「Photos by @stephenwilkes | In 2019 I traveled to Grindavik, Iceland, to capture the iconic Blue Lagoon for my Day to Night series. An otherworldly landscape with extraordinary colors, the lagoon consists of geothermal water from a nearby power plant that creates what’s essentially free energy. Therapeutic waters, a by-product of the plant, fill these beautiful, heated pools and has made the Blue Lagoon one of the most popular spas in the world. I found an ideal setup overlooking the area from above, and my assistants and I remained outside on a rooftop deck for more than 30 hours. We began photographing just before sunrise, as the fog and steam from the lagoon began to create a surreal landscape. Turquoise water and silhouetted people became shrouded in a mysterious mist, disappearing and then reappearing every few minutes. I had seen photos of the surrounding rocks when they are covered in snow, and we were blessed that the stars were in alignment, as it snowed the night before our shoot. But the icing on the cake was witnessing the northern lights appear in the night sky … as if on cue. The Blue Lagoon has been closed because of multiple earthquakes that are sparking fears of a volcanic eruption for so many who live in this beautiful region. A state of emergency has been declared and the area evacuated. Let’s hope that things settle down for all the people living in Grindavik and that life can return to normal soon. In my Day to Night series, landscapes are portrayed from a fixed camera angle over the course of a full day. A select group of these images is blended into a single composite.
