#WorkoftheWeek is John Singer Sargent's Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose.
Sargent was able to paint for only a few minutes each evening when the light was exactly right. He would place his easel and paints out beforehand, and Polly and Dolly would pose in anticipation of the few moments when he could paint the mauvish light of dusk. The lanterns appear to glow a wonderful orange from the canvas.
See the painting on free display at Tate Britain and watch the lanterns glow when you view the painting through your Instagram app. #TateAR

When I saw it at the National Museum in Washington DC, it looked like someone had put lights behind the canvas to illuminate it from behind. One of his most stunning pieces!

Only by photos, it already became my all-time favorite. Crying behind the screen for not being able too see it in a short time but I'll be there at 2020 surely!!

this swirl of plants, flowers, blossoms! ♥️ Mythbuildung genius? Sargent did not depend on a specific light.

You can never do Singer Sargents work justice in a photo. In reality his work glows from the inside 😍
