It shows a stylised city scene, in which a number of tall, narrow towers in bright colours sit side by side. 🟧🟩🟥 Tanavoli made a number of silkscreens which he sent to different weavers across the country to turn into carpets. He studied the craft of carpet-making and his work as an artist is closely bound up with his research. The transformation of these geometric prints into carpets, made using traditional methods, displays Tanavoli's interest in drawing connections between tradition and modernity. ​ Tanavoli was one of the pioneering artists of the Saqqakhaneh, an Iranian modern art movement. ​'Before us, artists were proud to follow Picasso or Cezanne, but we were different, we had our own schools, our own art. I didn’t want to follow westerners, we wanted to be more Persian, so I used all the tools around me: locks, grills.
