Scott Smith (who wrote the novel) had done the screenplay adaptation - and it was shocking and brutal and terrifying. . (All good things;) . I told my agent that THIS was the project I wanted to go after. . And go after it I did. . I started a process that lasted almost a full year. Meeting after meeting presenting my vision of the film to producers and executives. . Every time I “passed” one round of meetings I’d anxiously await the next. . The film was happening at Dreamworks and they were talking with some huge directors about directing. It was such an incredible long shot but I had nothing to lose. . I figured it would be good practice pitching. . But I DID really want to get the film. . After about 7 rounds of meetings I got the call... . They were ready to have the last and final meeting. This would be the make or break moment when I would either get the film or my year of pitching would come to an end. . The meeting was to be with Steven Spielberg. . To be continued.. .
