Sterling Ruby's “DOUBLE CANDLE” (2018) towers at over 24 feet tall. The work is part monument, part memorial, with its candles standing for loss as well as love. Ruby used bronze—one of sculpture’s heaviest, most lasting and traditional materials—to capture a fleeting moment of flickering light.
“DOUBLE CANDLE” was installed last summer in our @hirshhorn's Sculpture Garden, where the reflecting pool mirrors and extends the piece.
