Around this time, banners in the shape of carp, called koinobori, are displayed in gardens and balconies of every house around the city.🎏 This custom, dating back to the middle of the Edo period (1603 - 1867), is a prayer for the healthy growth of boys and represents the wish for them to grow up to be strong and admirable like a carp that can survive in a raging river.✨  Every year from mid-April to mid-May, around 150 impressive koinobori can be seen decorating the river banks (Nakama City area) of the Onga River in the Nakama City area, which flows north through the eastern part of the prefecture!
