권순철(b.1944, kwun Suncheol) 작가는 서울과 파리를 오가며 50여 년간 줄곧 그림을 그려왔다. 그림의 모티프는 주로 한국의 산과 바다. 그리고 한국인의 초상이다. 세파에 시달리며 힘겹게 살아온 노인의 얼굴은 작가 특유의 두꺼운 마티에르와 거친 붓 터치를 거쳐 깊은 울림을 전한다. 인간의 얼굴을 모티프로 예술과 종교의 상관관례를 형상화하는 경지에 이른 노화가의 심연이다.

Kwun Suncheol (b.1944) has devoted himself to painting by going back and forth between Seoul and Paris for more than 50 years. The motif of his painting is mainly focused on the mountains and seas of Korea as well as portraits of Korean people. An old man's face, who has lived a hard life suffering from the world, conveys a deep echo through the artist's unique thick matier and rough brush touch. It is an abyss of an old artist who has reached the level of embodying the correlation between art and religion employing the human face as a motif.
