It’s like the moment you announce you’re pregnant the unsolicited advice and judgement starts. Why is it we trust adults to adult their own way ... Until we have children. Why is it that men are praised for basic parenting whereas mums are shamed for doing the same? Anyway, I’ll write the words below, but basically I hope it tells you that people will judge whatever you do. There’s literally no beating it. So you may as well do it YOUR way. Here’s to supporting and empowering each other. 👊✨🙏 Be a mum, they say. How many of us are told this today? You’ll regret if you don’t. It’s selfish if you won’t. But don’t act like you’re the first person to be pregnant and for goodness sake do not complain about your birth. Put others first, almost park your self worth. Both might be traumatic but don’t be negative. It’s a silent pain you alone must relive, You don’t want to scare anyone! Like a good girl, be done. Be a mum, they said. But only if you’re going to breastfeed. No regard for your own needs, Breast is best! But don’t feed in public - that’s just messed! And don’t pump where we can see you, You’re embarrassing the others too! But don’t give them a bottle either. You’ve failed if you do. Be a mum, they said. But don’t be one of those who stays at home, It’s like you’ve given up on the previous you we’ve known! Go to work! The modern woman does not shirk. But not too soon, your poor children - Shipped off to a nursery play pen! Be a mum they said, but don’t you dare complain you’re tired. It’s a 24/7 job - from which you can’t be fired! Be there for them, respond to their cries, Be there for each rise. Put them in their own rooms, Before you create a rod of doom. Be a mum they said but, omg you’re so lucky he’s a hands on dad. If a mum did as little parenting as some dads it’d be considered bad, So basically be a mum, they’ll say. But whatever you do, they’ll judge you either way.
