The couple had intended to rebuild their previous home as it was when designer and architect Jamie Bush (@jamiebushco) came on board, pushing them to consider a different direction entirely. Bush suggested a house constructed from hard-wearing materials, most notably fire-resistant standing seam metal cladding on the exterior. Landscape architect Franz Design Studio (@franzdesignstudio) then stepped in with local plantings like manzanita, native buckwheat, sage, and California lilac. Air circulates easily throughout the house, and with the windows open, more than just the California breeze comes in. “You hear croaking frogs and birds at all times of the day,” says Bush.
