Throughout the 1980s and 90s, Big Tobacco made a killing off Chinese weddings. During that period, it was customary in some circles for brides to light a cigarette for every man invited to the ceremony, before the bride and groom played some kind of smoking-based game – like whatever's going on with the Sprite bottle bong in the photo above.
These photos – taken from the collection "Until Death Do Us Part" – were discovered by @thomas_sauvin, a French photography collector and editor, who has spent years salvaging old film negatives from a recycling plant on the outskirts of Beijing.
