Molly. Ecstasy. Pingers. Pills. Diz.

Whatever your preferred nom de plume for the substance
technically called 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine, it’s a beloved drug worldwide: from Ibizan clubs to the chairs of underground American therapists, via dank German dark rooms.

It’s anticipated that MDMA will shortly gain formal FDA approval as a PTSD medicine. But it’s been around for decades. German pharmaceutical company Merck first synthesized the drug in 1912, before American chemist Sasha Shulgin rediscovered it in the mid 1970s. Then came the golden era – the late 80s, when molly-fuelled euphoria coalesced with the rise of dance music.

Ecstasy hasn’t left the picture since then, but as we come closer to another summer, @dhillierwrites spoke to OG ravers who took the drug in its original heyday about how to roll as safely as possible, the lessons they’ve learned from being high, and their fondest memories of taking “the love drug.”
