Fall signals the end of the legislative session when California lawmakers send their work to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (@gavinnewsom) desk. Newsom ultimately rejects or enacts these bills into law.

One could call 2023 the year of worker protections, as legislation related to hospitality and restaurants was mostly driven by unions. Newsom has already signed two laws, including the fast-food wages deal and another on home food enterprises. There are still two others related to LA's workers and restaurant industry on his desk.
