Say “hello” to one fierce marsupial: the spotted-tail quoll (Dasyurus maculatus). It's found on the eastern Australian mainland, as well as on the island of Tasmania. When taking out prey it bites down on the head and uses its strong teeth and jaw to deliver a crushing blow. It has a varied diet which includes a range of critters, such as small mammals, reptiles, birds, and insects—but meat from gliders, rabbits, or bandicoots are favored. Another fun fact about this animal? Its hisses and screams have been likened to the sounds of a circular saw. This species is vulnerable to threats from habitat loss, competition with other species, and predation by introduced animals like foxes, dogs, and cats.
