What’s that critter? It’s the South American coati (Nasua nasua)! If it reminds you of a raccoon, that’s because it’s a relative–both of the ring-tailed critters are members of the family Procyonidae. Sometimes called the “hog-nosed raccoon,” it uses its flexible snout to help it find food such as fruits and invertebrates. This coati has a wide range across South American forests, covering parts of Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, and Bolivia.
